In 8th grade, students have a choice of the following semester-long art electives:

Art 8

Semester Course (meets twice a week for half a year)

Students will learn essential art and design media and techniques in 8th Grade Art. Students will work in two- and three-dimensional art forms such as drawing, painting, printmaking, mixed-media and sculpture. Students will explore themes universal to artistic and creative expression and be encouraged to take risks, critically problem solve, refine skills, and develop a personal voice as artists.

Introduction to Illustration

Semester Course (meets twice a week for half a year)

In this course students will sharpen their ability to visually convey a narrative through their artwork. Students will use a variety of media to express and explain ideas, stories, and opinions. Students will try their hand at children’s book art, comics, and commercial illustration and more.

Art of Asia

Semester Course (meets twice a week for half a year)

In this studio course students will have the opportunity to explore Asia through the lens of visual art and design. The class will dive into different two-dimensional and three-dimensional techniques and make work inspired by Asian artists and innovators spanning from the ancient to the contemporary.

Digital Art & Design

Semester Course (meets twice a week for half a year)

Through new media and software, students will demonstrate their understanding of the traditional elements of art and principles of design. Students will be exposed to Photoshop, animated Gifs, Conceptual Illustration, and Design.
