Daily Announcements 3/11/20

Diamond track begins on Monday. Please make sure you are registered and have an updated physical on file with the school nurse.

A New Tuesday WIN Block starts next week, Night on Earth!  This nature series’ new technology lifts night’s veil to reveal the hidden lives of the world’s creatures, from lions on the hunt to bats on the wing. Sign up for one of the viewing spots with Mr. Buckley in room 239.

Baseball tryouts begin on Monday. If you plan to tryout be sure to register and check the athletic website for up to date tryout information. If you have any questions see Mr. Dautrich in room 224.

If you are a Former ELL or an Opt-Out and you will need a bilingual dictionary for MCAS please see Ms Shand in room 2000 by C block today..

Diamond track begins 1 week from today. Please make sure you are registered and have an updated physical on file with the school nurse.

A reminder to Ms.Crowne’s, Ms. Kuokkanen’s and Ms. Finkelstein’s homeroom that you are in charge of the waste stations in the cafeteria this week during lunch.  Please check your homeroom’s sign-up. Thank you to all for being Responsible, United and Mindful in creating a GREENER Diamond!

Congratulations to this year’s MathCounts team at States last weekend. Boyan Litchev, Andy Xu, Ivy Zheng and Jacob Xu hard work this year earned them a  2nd place for the state of Massachusetts on Saturday. Along with a second place win, in individuals, Boyan placed fifth overall, Jacob came in 8th and Ivy came in 10th making her the top female MathCounts for the state of Massachusetts. CONGRATS Mathletes!

*AM/PM Announcement* – The last opportunity to tryout for IMLEM meet 5 will take place today after school in the cafeteria from 3-4. Please bring scrap paper, a pencil and a non-graphing calculator.

 

Please note that there will be NO HOMEWORK CLUB on Monday.

 

Mrs. Kalivas is hosting another drama workshop next Friday, March 13th! “Beware the Ides of March!” In this workshop, you’ll explore the wonderful world of William Shakespeare! Sign Ups are posted outside of Room 180 across from the auditorium. 

 

Sign Ups for 8th Grade Drama Project are officially posted outside of Room 180! Interested in being a part of the cast or crew? Grab a commitment contract and add your name to the list! First rehearsal will be held on Tuesday, March 17th!

ALL STUDENTS: the back hallway near room 164 will be closed today because the play rehearsal is in process.   You will not be able to use that hallway to get to and from the cafeteria. Please use the lobby outside the auditorium instead.

Attention Science Olympians: Permission slips for the state competition are due to Ms. Stoler on Friday, March 6. You can get the permission slip on Google Classroom or in room 2001. In addition, please make sure that you are checking the Google Classroom page every day for updates and announcements regarding the upcoming competition.

 

Are you a girl who loves math? There is a place for you at Girls into Math(GIM), an introduction to the variety of math competitions offered at Diamond. We will explore many different topics. All skill levels are welcome to join.

 

Ms. Delgado’s D block and G block 7th gr. guitar classes, and Ms. Chelnokova’s 6th gr. F block general music class,  should report to Ms. Bromley’s drama room (room 180 ) for class TODAY. Please do NOT go to 156 as it is being used as a dressing room all day.

Daily Announcements 3/3/20

The results for AMC 10A are in! If you have scored high enough to qualify for the AIME you have already been emailed. If you want to find out your score please stop by room 2002 at an appropriate time. We are still waiting for the AMC10B results, so stay tuned! 

 

The Eco Club will meet after school today in room 206 from 3:00-4:00

 

Friday and Saturday performances of The Lion King, Jr. are SOLD OUT!  TIckets for Thursday can still be purchased online and at Diamond MIddle School.  Tickets for the Sunday performance are still available at Diamond, but are no longer available online for purchase.  Please email Ms. Delgado with any questions

Students interested in playing baseball this year, there will be an information meeting today in room 224 right after school. If you have questions please see Mr. Dautrich in room 224.

 

Track starts two weeks from today, so make sure you register online and have a current physical on file with the Health Office.

 

The PTO-sponsored Book Fair will be here in just 2 weeks, starting March 16th. Come. Read. Support!

Daily Announcements 2/27/20

Tickets are on sale for Diamond Middle School’s production of The Lion King, Jr. Performances are Thurs-Sat: 3/5, 3/6, 3/7 at 7:30pm and Sunday, 3/8 at 11am.The Saturday performance is SOLD OUT, but tickets are still available for Thursday, Friday, and Sunday. Thursday and Sunday tickets are available online (brownpapertickets.com) or at Diamond Middle School. Friday tickets are only available for purchase at Diamond. We hope to see you there!

 

 IMLEM Meet 4 will take place today after-school. Please report to Mrs. Doonan’s room 2002 immediately after G block with a pencil and a non-graphing calculator.

Homework Club is being held five days a week from 3-4pm in Room 2007, and in Room 2005 on Thursdays.

 

Students who signed up for Mr. Dube’s study hall during WIN today should meet in room 164.

We forgot to hand out a Ranc’s gift card to one of our wonderful Green Team Composters for the week prior to vacation. The winner was Sophia Zhou!  Come on down to get your gift card. 

 

Spring Clubs start today! New clubs starting this afternoon for the semester are Coding Club in room 2004, Eco Club in room 206, Oceanography Club in 1007, and Girls Into Math in 243.

If you signed up to take the NEML during WIN tomorrow this offering is no longer being held in the cafeteria, and will take place in Mrs. Doonan’s room 2002.

In honor of Black History Month, today’s quote is from Desmond Tutu, “My humanity is bound up in yours, for we can only be human together.”

 

The order of lunches is different than usual for 6th and 8th grades: 8th grade will have 1st lunch, and 6th grade has second lunch.  7th graders will go to 3rd lunch as usual. 

 

REMINDER – NO FITNESS CENTER INTRAMURALS THIS AFTERNOON

 

The practice for IMLEM meet #4 will be held in MRS. DOONAN’S room 2002 today, Thursday February 13th from 3:00-4:00. Please be sure to bring your signed permission slip!

 

The NEML math competition for ALL grade levels will take place during WIN in the cafeteria the week we are back from February break, Tuesday Feb 25th. Please sign-up for this offering on Friday in homeroom if you are interested. You can find it under E-Doonan-NEML.

 

Today is the last day to turn in your independent reading log and enter your name to win one of the gift baskets. Winners of the 2020 Independent Reading Challenge will be announced tomorrow morning. Reading logs should be turned in to the library no later than 3 pm this afternoon.

WIN Offering: Stressed Out…We can help!

Learn why our bodies act the way they do when they are stressed.  Learn some simple techniques you can use, without anyone knowing, that will help you gain control of the “stress monsters” in your life. This will be a 5 week WIN offering that will be held Tuesdays. Please sign up in homeroom this Friday.

 

Today after school at 3:15, come watch the best sports day of the year. It’s our annual boys and girls basketball game against the Diamond faculty. You don’t want to miss all the excitement. Let’s bring the house down.

REMINDER – NO FITNESS CENTER INTRAMURALS TOMORROW!

 

The practice for IMLEM meet #4 will be held in MRS. DOONAN’S room 2002 tomorrow Thursday February 13th from 3:00-4:00. Yes, you heard correctly. DOONAN IS BACK! Please stop by 2002 for a permission slip if you haven’t already gotten one.

Spring club registration will open today after school! Check out the Diamond Clubs website or the posters around the building to see what is being offered! Even if you were part of a club in the fall, you need to register for the club again for spring, unless it is a year round club. There are lots of brand new clubs being offered this semester including Eco Club with Mr. Dube, Oceanography Club with Ms. Factor and Mr. Buckley,  Chess Club with Ms. Shand and Biomimetic Robots Club with Ms. Burgin. Clubs will begin AFTER February Vacation!

 

Attention Model UN members, Model UN is cancelled today. If you are attending the Bentley University Conference on February 29, you must bring your check to Mr. Bosbach by this Friday.

Today at 3:00pm there will be an important softball meeting in the gym with the Lexington High School Varsity Softball Coach, Mr. Ng, and many of the high school players. The meeting will provide an overview of the upcoming high school clinic and provide future players an opportunity to ask questions to high school players and coaches. If you love to play softball, please join us.

8th Graders! Interested in taking Mandarin at LHS? Already know some Mandarin? 

See your current world language teacher or Ms. Zhou in room 149 for info. about the upcoming LHS Mandarin level test.  Today is the last day you can register.

 

Next week, the Student Council would like to have a  “We All Belong” Spirit Week. Each day will be a different spirit day! A flyer will be put up in each homeroom and a reminder will be sent home.  

 

This Monday, February 10th is Identity Day  What makes you, you?!  Let’s show off how wonderfully diverse we are as a community and pledge to appreciate our differences.  In honor of the spirit we ask you to show off your culture, ethnicity, hobbies, and interests in the attire or accessories you wear.  Again, what makes you, you?  

 

  PM announcement:       Tuesday, February 11 is Color Competition Day.   Please, wear the color connected to your grade level.  

                       Grade 6 students should wear any shade of blue.   

            Grade 7 students should wear any shade of green 

          Grade 8 students should wear white or gray.
