Let's Talk Trash

Laura Dickerson, editor

Lexington Solid Waste Action Team

This biweekly column tries to answer some of the most commonly asked questions about recycling, composting and the town's solid waste program.

Q: You printed information about donating old cell phones to charity, but I've lost it. Can you do so again?

A: A variety of organizations take old cell phones, but they often only set up limited time drives. For an ongoing collection, you can take them to Verizon Wireless stores. There is one nearby, at 64 Middlesex Turnpike in Burlington. It's in between the end of Adams Street and Route 128. Their phone number is 781-221-7222.

Q: I have two black and white 12-inch televisions which I no longer use. Both are in working condition. Is there any organization that can use them, or is my only option to bring them to one of Lexington's CRT collections?

A: Goodwill accepts donations of working TVs at their various stores, but their donation trailers won't take them, nor will the Global Thrift shop on Moody Street in Waltham. The closest Goodwill stores are in Somerville, Medford, and Cambridge. See: goodwillmass.org/store.htm for a longer list, plus store hours for all the locations.
