The Lexington Stewardship Program is a group of volunteers formed under the joint sponsorship of the Lexington Conservation Commission and Citizens for Lexington Conservation to help protect conservation lands in Lexington. The Stewards assist the Conservation Commission by regularly visiting the sites and reporting problems such as trail erosion or litter accumulations to the Conservation Office. They may also, if they wish, clear existing trails blocked by fallen trees or branches, assist with litter pickup, and guide walks for the public, among other tasks.
The Stewardship Program publishes a newsletter, Stewardship News, usually in the fall and spring. It also usually holds semi-annual meetings with a guest speaker on conservation issues, occasional special events and several work days. A smaller group of Steward Directors meet monthly to plan activities and publications. Download our latest Stewardship Newsletter here in PDF format for what is currently planned. At this time there are about 100 active stewards. Some sites like Willards Woods have 10 or more stewards. Smaller sites may have only 1 and a number of sites have no stewards, so if you live near a conservation land parcel and visit it regularly, and would like to help with its maintenance please join the Stewardship Program. You do not have to be a member of CLC to become a steward.
The Stewardship Handbook provides a guide to Stewardship activities in the field.
